- Light Brown Sugar- It melts down with the chocolate to create the most delicious treat!
- Chocolate Chips- To make vegan, make sure to use gluten free/vegan chocolate chips. I love these allergy friendly chocolate chips.
- Milk- We use milk to brush the raw dough to make the dough have a slight golden color once baked. If you are dairy free, use a dairy free milk or pure maple syrup. If you don't have egg allergies you may also use an egg wash.

How to Make Chocolate Puff Pastry Twists
Here are the step by step instructions to make this easy chocolate puff pastry!
Step 1: Roll Dough into a Circle
Take half of the puff pastry dough out of the fridge. Lightly dust a clean surface with gluten free flour. Roll the dough out into an 11 inch circle.
If using frozen store-bought pastry dough, thaw according to the instructions on the box and then trim the edges of the 11x11 inch square to make a circle.
Step 2: Cut into 8 Slices
Using a pizza cutter or a knife, cut your circle like a pizza into 8 triangular slices and gently separate the slices from one another.
Step 3: Sprinkle the Filling
Gently sprinkle the brown sugar on each of the 8 slices. It’s ok if you go to the edges of the slice with the sugar.
Next, sprinkle the chocolate chips onto the center of triangular slice.
You don’t want the chips go to the edges because they will prevent you from rolling the pastry.
Step 4: Roll into Twists
Roll the triangles up starting at the wide end.
Roll away from you and gently press the triangle point down into the roll to seal shut.
Place your rolls on a baking sheet. Brush a little milk on top of each chocolate puff pastry roll.
Bake the rolls for 25-30 minutes until they are golden brown.

Step 5: Drizzle with Chocolate
Place 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips in a small microwave safe bowl and heat in 15 second increments, stirring after each time, until melted.
Drizzle on top of your Chocolate pastry rolls and enjoy right away!
Expert Baking Tips
- Use our Easy Puff Pastry Dough- Make sure to make the dough at least 1 hour ahead of time.
- Don't Overfill with Chocolate Chips- Only put the chocolate chips in the center of each triangle slice, otherwise you won't be able to roll the dough into a twist.
- Milk Wash- Don't forget to add a wash if you want the dough to be more golden in color. You can also do a pure maple syrup wash with 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup mixed with 1 tablespoon water.
Recipe FAQs
The twists taste best right out of the oven.
Yes! I prefer semi-sweet but you can of course use dark chocolate or milk chocolate.
Storing: Once cool, store any extra twists in an airtight container or a zip top bag at room temperature for up to 2 days.
If desired, reheat in the microwave for a few seconds prior to eating. Be careful not to burn your mouth.
I do not recommend freezing the puff pastry twists.

Puff Pastry with Chocolate
Ingredients
- ½ easy puff pastry dough (or 1 11x11 store bought puff pastry sheet)
- 2 tablespoons gluten free flour for dusting
- ¼ cup light brown sugar , packed
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
- Take your homemade puff pastry out of the fridge or if you’re using frozen, thaw according to the instructions on the box.
- Lightly dust a clean work surface with gluten free flour. If using homemade puff pastry, roll it out into an 11 inch circle. If using frozen, take your 11x11 inch rectangle and trim the edges so that you make a circle.
- Once you have a circle, using a pizza cutter or a knife, cut your circle like a pizza. I cut mine into 8 triangular slices.
- Separate your slices from one another. Gently sprinkle the brown sugar on each of the 8 slices.
- Then sprinkle the chocolate chips onto each triangular slice. You don’t want to have the chips go to the edges because they will prevent you from rolling the pastry. Try to keep them in the center.
- Roll the triangles up starting at the wide end. Roll away from you and gently press the triangle point down into the roll to seal shut.
- Place your rolls on a baking sheet. In a small bowl mix the maple syrup and water together. Brush the mixture on top of each chocolate puff pastry roll. This is essentially your vegan egg wash. Bake for 25-30 minutes until they are golden brown.
- Place 2 tablespoons of chocolate chips in a small microwave safe bowl and heat in 15 second increments, stirring after each time, until melted. Drizzle on top of your Chocolate Pastry Rolls and enjoy!
